Very few
dental procedures are as infamous as root canal treatments. Some people would
grit their teeth and bear the pain for as long as they need to rather than
undergo root canal treatment until the pain becomes unbearable. Of course, it’s
a bad idea.
Root
canal treatment is the only way to save a tooth root from dying due to extreme
tooth decay; otherwise, the decay will spread to the surrounding teeth.
Fortunately, the signs of an infected tooth root are easy to identify. If you
begin to experience any of these signs, be sure to see your Charlotte dentist
immediately:
Prolonged Sensitivity to Temperature
In most
cases, healthy teeth aren’t so sensitive that they are affected by the
temperature of what you consume. Extreme tooth decay, however, exposes the
nerve within your tooth. This exposure leads you to experience prolonged
sensitivity to both hot and cold foods and drinks.
Presence of Sores on Gums
Sores
located on your gums (a.k.a. abscesses) are a significant problem, especially
when they begin to drain pus. The presence of pus means your body is already
fighting a large-scale tooth infection.
Intense Toothaches That Suddenly Disappear
When
your tooth becomes severely infected, you will most probably experience intense
pain that lasts for days. If the pain suddenly stops, however, you shouldn’t
celebrate. The sudden disappearance of pain may indicate that the nerve has
already succumbed to the infection, and there is a distinct possibility of the
infection beginning to spread to other teeth.
